Head of School's Message

We understand the importance of imaginative play in early childhood development. Our domestic role play area provides children with valuable opportunities to develop social, communication, and problem-solving skills through real-life scenarios.

To enhance this space, we are planning a renovation over the half-term holidays, creating a more engaging and enriching environment for our children. To support this, we are kindly requesting donations of resources that could help bring the area to life. Items that would be particularly useful include:

  • Play kitchen equipment (toy food, pots, pans, utensils)

  • Dress-up clothes (aprons, uniforms, cultural attire)

  • Household items (empty food packaging, shopping bags, plastic containers)  - we are especially looking for empty packaging in languages other than English

  • Soft furnishings (cushions, tablecloths, rugs)

  • Working from home (old mobile phones, old laptop, child-sized office chair)

  • Do we have any budding decorators who are able to wallpaper a wall in our home corner?

If you have any suitable items in good condition that you are happy to donate, please bring them to the school office by 14th February. Your support will make a huge difference in creating an inspiring space for our children to explore, learn, and play.

Book & Rhyme of the week

Our Book of the Week is "The Runaway Chapatti" by Susan and Adam Price.

Next week the story will move into the innovation phase of the EYFS Talk For Writing programme, where the children will make changes to the original story such as characters, settings, or events while maintaining the structure and style of the original text. This will involve activities such as creating story maps and expressing their unique ideas through language, both written and spoken. This phase is essential in fostering a love for storytelling and a deeper understanding of narrative structures.

Our key vocabulary of the text is "chapatti", "frying", "thin", "bank", "tea" and "creep".

Please see below link to story

Our Rhyme of the Week for next week is: "Wind the bobbin up."

In these sessions the children are also learning the Makaton signs to the lyrics.

Learning At Home

Last week children have thoroughly enjoyed making chapattis.

Baking and cooking with children supports their learning in all seven areas of the EYFS from developing skills, sensory experience and learning about measuring and capacity. Why don't you try this simple 'Mini Carrot Cakes' recipe below?

Have fun baking!

Success Story of the Week

This week the children had embarked on a sea adventure and role played being pirates.  They have used the construction blocks to create their very own pirate ship including flag pole!

They have made treasure maps, created their own periscopes and sung lots of pirate songs.  You may have heard your child singing one of the songs at home.
